The purpose of this initiative is to enhance Architectural students’ learning within a real world international context studying sustainable issues in building and architectural history. Students will have the opportunity to study sustainable community and building issues while also gaining insight into the architecture and culture of the first peoples of central America and the European influences that followed. They will interact with local architects, students, and community leaders to gain insight into the rich history of the past; including indigenous traditions and European influences. How these historical paths have intersected and what are the issues for the people going forward towards a sustainable future.
Durham College Students in their final year of Architectural Technology will apply their knowledge of sustainability; to listen, learn, and offer possible solutions to the schools. The experience gained will be transferred to Durham College for subsequent years to build on their work. This is an opportunity for our senior students to build on their courses and acquire additional employability skills. This is also an opportunity for many of our senior students to gain special insight that can be built upon towards post graduate opportunities, either in university or in development work. All of the information gained will be reinvested into Durham College for future students to learn from and our college to feature as our community partners benefit.
