In Guatemala nearly 70% of Mayan children face chronic malnutrition, which is one of the highest rates of malnutrition in the world.
During this trip we will be visiting the indigenous communities of Bolonco and Las Arrugas, where SOS has previously funded the construction of two school kitchens, to support nutritional education and health promotion for local students.
- Meet with nutritional experts to understand the challenges and opportunities related to diet and nutrition in the region
- Support coordination of Nutritional and Fitness Assessments for youth and deliver educational workshops
- Work with local youth to plan and prepare meals, while participating in cross-cultural dialogues on the topics of food, nutrition, and fitness.
- Support the planting and cultivation of school orchards to increase food security
This trip is ideal for those interested in global health, nutrition, student wellness, food security, and community development.
Who We Work With
SOS works exclusively with registered non governmental organizations (NGOs) in every country we work in to not only ensure the efficiency of our projects, but to ensure our volunteers have the best experience.
SEED Alliance Husband and wife Edil and Sheily created SEED Alliance in 2013. SEED Leaders propose community projects, in which many of them were born and raised in. SEED Alliance and SOS have worked together since 2012 on over 20 community development projects in Guatemala.
SOS volunteers sleep in available community structures (classrooms, community centers, churches), and live as close to the conditions of the community as possible.
SOS works directly with Flight Centre to process all volunteers' Outreach Trip logistics from your travel insurance to your in country needs like clean drinking water and accommodations!
